Background
I have been dancing since the age of three through the
San Diego Civic Dance Association. Throughout the years, I have received training in the techniques of tap, jazz, ballet,
lyrical, pointe, modern, and musical theater. Obviously, dance is a very important part
of my life. Much of my free time is spent either at class or at rehearsals in Balboa
Park.
Currently, I am a member of the San Diego Civic Dance Company which is an advanced group of
dancers from all over San Diego. In order to become a part of the Company, members have to
complete an extensive training workshop and audition. We perform on a regular basis at
various events around the city. If you would like to see us perform, just check the
updates for future shows.

(9/17) Wow! They worked us so hard yesterday! I can't believe we had an audition-like
class on our first day back! Yeah, and those dance camp dances looked great...
*sigh* So stressful... Anyways, I like that guest choreographer's dance -- I'm gonna
understudy for sure. In Claudia's tap I have so better be a girl! We all saw me as "Jack"...
Yeah, I wanna be cutesy -- not manly *grunt*!
Ugh, I'm feeling it already guys... this is what I get for not dancing in two weeks... total
soreness. I was fine this morning, then somewhere in the middle of third period everything
just started aching. Now whenever I just breathe in I hurt -- no joke! *winces* Out of
shape...
Thanks much to Haley for burning me the new John Mayor CD! Kelly, where the heck were you
yesterday? Hey Em-J! I don't know, just wanted to write that... okay, yeah. Yay, I got to
see my elfie twin yesterday! No more withdrawals! I love Company!
(9/11) Dance classes start again next week... can't wait! I'm so restless without my
daily dose of dancing!
(9/2) Ahh! What am I going to do? Two whole weeks of no dance! I know!
I'm already going through elfie twin withdrawals, plus I have no alternate physical
activity to rid me of my extra energy and keep me in shape. I guess I'll have to
manage somehow...
Lisa! I'm so sorry I forgot all about giving you back your CD, I even had it in my dance
bag last Tuesday! *sigh* I guess we'll just have to get together sometime so I can give
it back to you... shucks! Plus you still need to make my shirt, and we need to look into
the creation of our Elfie Twin shirts also.
A note to Kelly: Wow chica -- It's been like forever-and-a-half since I've seen you!
When was it last? At Footloose? Yeah... give me a call sometime. Hope your first day of
school went just dandy! Also, sorry about Knott's Berry Farm, but on an upnote; can't wait
until your birthday! Aw, my little Kells is growing up!
(8/4) La, la-la laa, la-la laa, la-la laa-ah! Don't forget to use your diaphragm as a vocal
support, distinguish between your chest voice and your head voice, place your vowels, slide
your notes to disguise transitions, harmonic chords! Meh... I don't think singing is for me.
We're dancers, not singers! Oh well, maybe I'll improve in these two weeks, we'll see...
although, it's a little hard to concentrate when somebody's stomach keep growling while
they breathe! *ahem* Hehe, my elfie twin is so weird... too bad the rumbling is contagious!
Grr, we don't have to be that much alike, do we? Hmm... other highlights of singing
class? Oh, "my name is Lisa, and I wanna climb a tree!" That was hilarious! So cute... so...
Lisa! Anyways, enough about singing. The only thing I have left to say about it is, "nyeh!"
Hmm, the rest of my first day of dance camp experiences? I love Tina's lyrical dance, so
pretty. Rachel's dance is fun, I love the attitude... argh! Muscles! Musical theater?
What do you say Lisa, are we ditching that tomorrow? Little Ava is so cute! Wow, ice cream
is only a dollar! Oh, but the scary mural kids are freaky! Well, one day down, fourteen more
to go. Its the marathon dance camp!
(7/9) I'd just like to quickly mention here, that my elfie twin is sixteen! Yay!
Lisa, I had a ton of fun at your party and it was so great to meet all of your friends from
school. Watch out for the holes! Interesting watermarks on your sweatshirt Kelly... Yeah,
anyways, just wanted to mention that I had mucho fun! Thanks for inviting me toots! Too bad
we couldn't spot any muchachos peligrosos (y guapos tambien!) for your b-day party. Maybe
next time...
Back to dance; my Kelly, I'm sensing some bitterness! Don't worry kid, at least
we're in it together. Give it 'till the end of the summer, we'll see what happens. In the
meantime, we can practice our evil glares! Although yours are quite good already...
(7/6) I hope everybody had a fun day at the fair! Well, aside from the actual dancing
part at least... (why couldn't we run the dances last Tuesday?) At least everybody
made the quick change from "More" to "Dick Tracy" in time. Anyways, the real show to
see was the five o'clock hypnotist show which featured our favorite dance teacher: Nicole! (and
almost Kathy...) I've got a couple of good pictures from the *ahem* dance sequence that I need
to post later.
So Lisa, do you think we ate enough food? I don't know about you, but I definitely did. Mmmm...
so much good stuff. Thanks for sharing the funnel cake! Although I did eat a lot, I didn't
try a fried twinkie like I planned... what about you Moy? Did you cave? I agree, it's a
life altering decision... those things could kill you. Hehe, anyways, it's okay, I'll have
another opportunity. Someday...
The exhibits were all pretty good this year. I don't know if all of you from the other
schools saw or not, but Mt. Carmel won 2nd place for yearbook, 1st for newspaper
(Mercurio had the nerve to submit the one that I found all the mistakes in!), and
several other ribbons for artwork (one which I must mention is my good friend
Jennifer Reynolds -- blue ribbon photo!). Anyways, the exhibits were nice.
So, yeah, that was my fair experience this year.
(6/29) Last night we had our SummerQuest show at the Westgate. It went all right. The finale
kickline was kinda messed up... but that wasn't our fault. (Blame ballet and band!) Anyways
I was a little bummed, I didn't even get to see Cyd Charisse! But we did get to hear Lorna
Luft sing which was cool. Waiting was actually kinda fun too... the room with all the chairs!
Also, assigning Harry Potter characters was hilarious! Don't forget Harry's long-lost cousin
Larry who lives at number 5 Privet Drive in the cupboard under the sink!
(6/25) Yesterday was the first day of Company. Updates for the new year are: new color
is royal blue, new members are now automatically at level A (apprentices), and my levels for
the year are Tech 2, Jazz C, and Tap C.
(6/15) Well, recitals are over. Kinda bittersweet... since nobody made memory books this
year, I'm just going to put them here.
Lisa - Even though the era of elfie twins has ended,
There are still no twins like elfie twins!
Del Mar Fair here we come! Food, food, and more food! You were the best YBR ever, so ease
on down.
Kelly - If I throw-up onstage, pretend like it's supposed to happen. Thanks so
much for the candy! Puttin' on the Ritz (crackers)? Gummy bears!
Laura - Your dance was
great! Thanks so much for putting me in it. Hope we didn't screw it up too much for you.
Rachel - E! All of the above! Mmm... fried twinkies.
Kailey - Aw, if you only had a brain...
J/K kid! You were so perfect as the scarecrow. Sorry you had to wear that freaky mesh mask
thing glued to your face.
Elizabeth - Grr! Put 'em up! That lion costume looked like such
a pain! Thanks for being such a great friend. I'm going to miss you!
To all who are
leaving - best of luck at college (or wherever). I'll miss all of you so much. Come
back and visit during Collage. Keep dancing!
