Daily Thoughts

June 29, 2003
Well, after having it pointed out to me that my mom manages to write on her website practically everyday and that my page only has new posts on occasion, I decided I ought to write something to keep my readers happy... (*sigh* c'mon people, it's my first day on the web!)

An anonymous source (I bet you can all guess who) suggested to me that I write about pirates. Why? I don't know. You'd have to ask her. Anyways, I suppose to keep her happy I'm going to have to mention them in here. So, as you should all know, Pirates of the Caribbean opens on July 9th. Be there, or else! Well, or... at least don't tell Becky if you aren't there... she may feel you need a refresher of the infamous pirate jokes. I can't really think of much else to say about pirates. You'll have to wait until Becky makes her pirate webpage to hear more.

Sorry I didn't have any cute little anecdote to tell today. I fear I may have lost the knack. *gasp* I know. Anyways, I'll try to come up with something better for you guys tomorrow. Until then, amuse yourselves in other ways. You could always look up aerogels for a kick. I know that's what I would do. But then again, I'm weird.

Imagine for a moment a bright room, filled with music. And kids. Lots of little kids. With tap shoes. See it? Okay, only one final thing to add to this scenario. Add two seventeen-year-olds who are both close to six-foot standing in the back of the class glaring at you. This was the exact scene I was faced with today during the first beginning tap class of the summer at Canyonside Rec Center.

Despite the drastic differences in size, my friends fared quite well in their first ever experience with tap. In a single class, they learned toe taps, brush-brush step, shuffles, slaps, flap-heels, and ball-changes! Oh, I'm so proud! If anybody else is interested in taking classes, let me know and I'll give you the info. I guarantee you won't be the only "big kid" in the class. Hehe...

Although my friends seemed just slightly short of being thrilled at their chosen Friday afternoon activity, I think it went well (That is, disregarding the evil looks incessantly cast my way throughout class). Even though it is too soon to tell whether or not they will actually enjoy the class or not, I have learned one thing for certain today: I have the best friends in the world!

I haven't worked much on my page this past week due mainly to two things: my mini computer course that I took this summer to complete my computer literacy requirement and Harry Potter.

It really is unfortunate that I haven't been writing much, because my computer class was a joke. Although it's hard to recall all the details of my past week of summer school experience, it was something along the lines of me showing up, downloading Instant Messenger, checking my email, and then wasting the remaining time looking up random stuff or playing Insaniquarium. Although, occasionally I did find myself taking a break to quickly make a powerpoint or word document to complete the day's assigned task. The class was actually not that bad, due to the fact that I pretty much did what I do at home most of the night. However, our final project was rather frustrating. Make a website with all of your projects from the week posted on it. Wow, sure am glad I could learn how to make a webpage! Well, after finding a way around the major annoyances of the program we were instructed to use (Microsoft Frontpage), I ended up with a pretty decent looking webpage (which will be available for viewing in my school section at some point). At least I don't have to worry about taking a computer class anymore.

The second thing which occupied much of my time, as I mentioned above, was Harry Potter. As most of you should know, Harry Potter V, The Order of the Phoenix, was released on June 21st. So, of course, in preparation for this event, I had to re-read all the other books before its release. Well, although I came close, I admit I skipped most of book three and some parts of book four. But, in any case, I was ready to start reading the moment the fifth book came in the mail. So, starting at 4:30, I began reading. Breaking only to go see the Drum Corps at Westview, sleep, eat, and take a couple other breaks, I was able to finish the book by late Sunday afternoon. I'd like to talk more about the actual book, but I know several people have not finished it and I would be overly paranoid of accidentally giving something away. However, feel free to discuss it with me on AIM if you like. It's all about the HP!

I've encountered a drastically huge problem in the making of this page. There are way too many things to decide. Who's supposed to make all these decisions? Me? I think not. I am afterall, the most indecisive person ever. But, there's no one around to ask for help. I guess I'm on my own. This should be a good skill-builder for me. We'll see.

So, today I decided I would make a website... great idea! Anyways, after much help, I have a beautifully colored page with basically nothing on it. Oh well, I have to start somewhere I suppose.

I'm not quite sure what exactly I'm going to put on here yet... so this page may change quite drastically in the future once I figure it out. My original intention was to learn HTML while creating my own personal blog. But, then I was thinking, what would I write in a blog? I'm a relatively private person, so I don't know how "journal like" this whole thing will be. Which raises another interesting point. If I can hardly keep my own personal journal up to date, how am I going to maintain an updated webpage as well?

Well, at least I have one entry done.
