Italy was long known for elaborate works of art and the Italian dress, fashioned after gowns worn in the late 1400's is no exception.
The bodice is embroidered with a motif. Ribbons attach the sleeves for a pouf and slash look when over a chemise. Ladies and gentlemen of the Renaissance often ostentatiously displayed parts of the chemise or shirt, because the finely woven fabric was often the most costly part of the outfit.

Trims may vary. This makes each garment unique so you won't run into some one else at a fair or event wearing the exact same outfit.

  • Instructions for Putting on the Bella Abita Gown

    1. Put on the chemise with the drawstring in front. Don't tie the drawstring yet.
    2. On the dress, unfasten all ribbon ties, and slide the gown over your head. Tie the ribbons at the side, adjusting the ties so an equal amount of chemise shows on both sides, re-adjust the chemise if necessary. It may be pulled close to the neck, or it may be loosened so that only the ruffle peeks above the edge of the neckline.
    3. Lay the sleeves on your arms and tie the ribbons. After tying a knot and a bow, you will problably wish a second knot tied in the bow. Pull the chemise out in puffs between sections of the sleeves and at the armhole. A Renaissance lady would have extravagently and ostentatiously shown off the amount of fabric in her chemise. The finely woven fabric of the chemise may have cost her more than the dress, and the dress may have cost more than her jewels!
We hope you enjoy your Renaissance gown.
