Wednesday, June 25, 2008 -- Car Trouble
During the last few months my car has been in the shop almost as much as it's been out; a definite inconvenience, not to mention we've basically been keeping our mechanic in business. Then yesterday, on my way home, the car broke - totally and completely, not-worth-fixing-again broke.
I'd noticed the steering felt a little stiff as I set off and had made a mental note to have the power steering checked. But then, there was a LOUD cracking "CLUNCK". I wrestled the car to the side of the road, leaving a skid mark the length of the street, and got out to observe that the right front wheel was now sitting at a 90 degree angle to the rest of the car and kind of knocked crooked after being dragged down the street. The pressure of the dragging wheel against the wheel frame also caused the metal to buckle so that the passenger door would no longer open.
Unfortunately I did not have the camera with me, but you can trust me when I say it was an impressive sight, three wheels facing forward and one completely sideways.
Sooo. . . today I get a new car. Well, not a "new," new car, but a newer old car; a new-to-me car.

Happy Birthday Julie!!!

Tuesday, May 20, 2008 -- Old School
"There's my 'old school,' " Raymond said, as we drove passed Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
--- He'd graduated on Saturday.

Tuesday, May 6, 2008 -- Nature
Overheard ---
"I found a spider."
"Let me see." - "I want to see it." - "Kill it. Kill it."
"No. We can't kill it. It's a 'creature of nature.' "
***** Ahh, maybe they are listening to some of the things I say.

Monday, May 5, 2008 -- Help Wanted
Ad placed by a very large and well known organization -
"Want to work with kids and your bilingual? This is the job for you."
I might want to work with my bilingual.

Saturday, May 3, 2008 -- Horse Racing
Today was Kentucky Derby day, an event I do not support. In my opinion horse racing is barely a notch above animal abuse. An incredibly high number of horses are euthanized during each race season, including the second place winner of the derby this year. The horses are pushed too hard, too fast, while too young, all to satisfy a money making industry masquerading as a so called "glamorous" sport.

Friday, April 18, 2008 -- Confrontation
"Avi kicked me," yelled Grant. (Both are two year olds.)
"Avi, Did you kick Grant?"
"Yes, I did."
"Well, Avi, is there something you think you should say to Grant?"
"Yes. I'm going to KICK YOU AGAIN!"

Not exactly the response we were looking for.

Thursday, March 20, 2008 -- Gardening
While pulling weeds with the preschoolers ---
Me - "This is a dandelion."
Drake (four years old) - "I thought it was a weed."
Me - "It is a weed, but this weed's name is dandelion."
Drake (holding up his weed) - "Let's call this one George."
Me - "No, I don't mean this weed's name is Dandelion. The name of the weed is dandelion."
Jenna (catching on) - "Yeah, like this flower's name is rose."
Me - "Right. Except that's a geranium."

I've been working at the preschool for about two months now and am having fun being around young children again.

Tuesday, February 26, 2008 -- Birthday

Today is my birthday. I was thinking I should do something special to celebrate it. But we usually dance on Tuesdays and I can't really think of a nicer way to spend it.
