Tuesday, March 28, 2006 -- A Joke
I generally don't like jokes . . . but I like this one.

Thursday, March 16, 2006 -- Escape For almost three months now - almost three months - I have been skipping along, blissful in the knowledge that the cats, including Pip, were safely confined to the yard. So far, we've never had Pip contained for more than three months and usually much less time than that. I was even starting to believe that perhaps he was content with staying home. So now, just one week short of three months, you can imagine my dismay when I came home last night to find that he has, once again, discovered a means of escape. Monday, March 13, 2006
Wednesday, March 8, 2006 -- And Still Painting Floorboards and doorframes - ugh. Tuesday, March 7, 2006 -- Still Painting I have been struck with the realization that painting is . . . r e a l l y - h a r d - w o r k. It doesn't even seem like I've done that much and I'm completely exhausted. I can barely function, I'm so tired. I don't understand this. I usually have pretty good stamina. It might have something to do with climbing up and down a ladder all day or maybe I'm just slowly being asphyxiated by paint fumes. Monday, March 6, 2006 -- Crazy Cats I have a curio case/cabinet which stands diagonally across a corner of the room, creating a small triangular space behind it; a situation which, until today, was unnoticed by Pip. With the excitement of furniture moving and the painting activities, Pip has been absolutely wild of late. This afternoon, all at once, and before I could stop him, he jumped up onto the cabinet and back down behind it, trapping himself in the small triangular space. Apparently this was fun for only a few minutes as he soon started loudly proclaiming of his predicament. This case is cumbersome to move and very full, and having just recently emptied and moved it in order to paint, I was not enthusiastic about having to do it again, thus raising the question - Can a cat, starting from a dead stop, jump six feet straight up in the air and land on the top of a cabinet? The answer is yes, but not without much complaint beforehand. Meanwhile, Purrs has discovered that birdwatching has become much easier. I came into the room to find him sitting on top of the birdcage (which is temporarally displaced due to the painting), poking his paw through the grid, and chasing the birds back and forth on their perch. And, Allie keeps rubbing against the wet paint, leaving paint on her fur and fur on my walls. I definitely need to get this room finished and put back together - as soon as possible. Thursday, March 2, 2006 -- New Paint The painting is coming along nicely, though it's taking a bit longer than I'd hoped. The preparation takes quite a bit of time since I have so much hanging on the walls and so much to move, (and so much of it is breakable.) Then, of course, there's the washing, the prepping, and the priming, before you can even start to paint. (Isn't spackle just the most marvelous stuff, not even counting that it's such a fun word?) The last time I did this I didn't have cats helping me. They all line up on the outer window sill and meow at me through the glass as I paint. Since they are used to being able to come in and out of the house as they please, they do not like being locked out. But it very quickly became apparent that it just wouldn't work having them inside, especially considering that Allie now has a smear of white paint accenting her solid black fur. I am almost finished with the livingroom/diningroom. The walls are now a lovely shade of blue ("Cumberland Fog") and the whitest of whites ("Ultra-Pure White",) a vast improvement over the former off-white shade which resembled the color of old newsprint. So everything is beginning to look fresh and bright and the house smells like new paint and furniture polish. Next week - On to the entry, family room, and kitchen. |
