Tuesday, January 31, 2006 -- Fast
Visiting Vi's senior living complex, I heard the bell for the elevator ring as I entered, so I dashed down the hall, around the corner, and jumped in the elevator just as the door closed.
"Oh my!" said the lady in the elevator.
"I'm sorry, Did I startle you?"
"No, I'm just not used to seeing anyone move that fast around here."

Monday, January 30, 2006 -- Small Talk
He - "Are you ready for the Super Bowl?"
Me - "Um, I guess so." (I'm not sure when the Super Bowl is being played.)
He - "Are you rooting for the Steelers?"
Me - "Um, I don't know." (I have no idea who else is playing.)
He - "They sure picked an odd place for it this year, don't you think?"
Me - "Um, yeah, I guess." (I don't know where the Super Bowl is being played.)

Friday, January 27, 2006 -- Unicyclist
Today I saw a boy riding a unicycle down Poway Road.

Tuesday, January 24, 2006 -- Purple
A quote for David -
"I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it."
-- Alice Walker, American Author, Critic

Sunday, January 15, 2006 -- Finally Done
"Everything takes longer than you expect, even when you expect it to take longer than you expect."
-- Ashleigh Brilliant
Christmas is finally packed away.
Why this stuff will not go back into the boxes it came out of, I cannot understand.

Friday, January 13, 2006 -- Friday the 13th
I am basically not a superstitious person. It doesn't bother me to break a mirror, walk under a ladder, or have a black cat cross my path. I don't cross my fingers, knock on wood, or throw salt over my shoulder. I wouldn't hesitate to live on the thirteenth floor. In fact, I generally view all these things, and others like them, to be silly.
But still, when I woke this morning, somewhere in the back of my mind, I couldn't help thinking, "Ooooh, Friday the 13th."

Tuesday, January 10, 2006 -- Angels
In the doctor's office, tacked to the ceiling directly over the exam table, was a picture of angels.
I'm not sure if the message is "Fear not, angels are watching." or "Well, it won't be long now."

Saturday, January 7, 2006 -- Skulls Skulls

Yeah, uh, I don't think so, Raymond.

If you thought I wouldn't notice the new decorative item on the piano,
you were mistaken.

Friday, January 6, 2006 - Schizo
Your Social Dysfunction:
Schizotypal

You display social deficits and oddities of thinking. Your perception and communication are similar to those of a schizophrenic.

Oh dear.
But maybe I knew that.

Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - Rain
"Rain is grace; rain is the sky condescending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life."
- John Updike

Monday, January 2, 2006 -- Rose Parade
Much as I love the rain, it's really a shame it couldn't have held off until after the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. This is the first time it has rained on the parade since 1955 and it appears to have been absolutely pouring, with strong winds as well. Oh, those poor kids marching in the bands!
It looked like parade attendance was way down this year, too. They usually expect an attendance of about one million spectators but the streets didn't appear nearly as packed as usual.
(I told you they should have had the parade yesterday on the real New Year's Day.)

It did look like everyone made the best of it though, with lots of plastic ponchos and umbrellas and little plastic covers over their hats. I heard they even have skid-proof booties available for the horses' hooves, if needed. Sort of horsey galoshes, if you will, but I couldn't spot any horses wearing them.
The float builders, of course, are less concerned about rain on the day of the parade than they are about rain on the day of the float judging and the floats are still beautiful even with some of the seeds and flowers washing off.

The parade, with the theme this year "It’s Magical," included 48 floats, 25 marching bands, and 23 equestrian units. I was surprised to see the Mt. Carmel High School Band from right here in Penasquitos marching at the very end of the parade. I didn't even know they were going to the Rose parade this year. But then, I guess I don't really know any of the kids at MCHS anymore.

I just love watching the Rose Parade. Now it feels like New Year's.
It is also beginning to feel like winter after our unusually warm weather last month. It looks like the storm will be reaching us soon. It's cloudy and dark out and starting to get windy and rainy.

Sunday, January 1, 2006
Happy New Year 2006!
Although it really doesn't feel like New Year's Day since the Rose Parade wasn't held this morning. With New Year's falling on Sunday, the parade will be tomorrow instead.
This is probably going to throw off my entire year.

Plus, I woke with a headache this morning and have been feeling kind of groggy and icky and
"hung over-ish" all day even though I didn't even have any champagne last night. That's just not fair.
