Tuesday, December 27, 2005 -- Nun Bun
Heard on the morning news --
"Who stole the 'nun bun'? Someone stole a bun with an image of what some thought looked like Mother Teresa from a bakery in Tennessee where it was displayed. . . That is actually a picture of Mother Teresa, not the 'nun bun'."
Ah, I thought the resemblance was remarkable.

The psychological phenomena where vague images are interpreted by the brain as specific images is called pareidolia. . . hence Mother Teresa on a sweet roll, or a corn chip, or whatever.
Silly.
But, check out what this sort of thing sells for on Ebay.
Incredibly silly.

Sunday, December 25, 2005 -- Celebrate
Merry Christmas!
Happy Hanukkah!
Joyful Kwanzaa!
Fabulous New Year!
Wonderful Life!

Monday, December 22, 2005 -- Winter
90 degrees for the first day of winter. Oh my.

Monday, December 19, 2005 -- King Kong
King Kong - the ultimate damsel-in-distress movie. Three solid hours of, Oh geez, What Now?
Lots of action. Good special effects. Way too long.

Sunday, December 18, 2005 -- Reason for the Season
From Wal-Mart Confronted on 'Happy Holidays' - Tom Chornear (Associated Press Writer) -
"A group of religious protesters demonstrated outside a Wal-Mart superstore Saturday, hoping to turn away customers by calling attention to the retailer's decision to use "happy holidays" rather than "merry Christmas" in its seasonal advertising."
"Dick Otterstad of the Church of the Divide donned a Santa Claus costume and greeted shoppers with the message: Don't forget about the meaning of Christmas.. . . 'It is insulting that Wal-Mart has chosen to ignore the reason for the season.' Otterstad said."

Because we all know that Santa Claus is the reason for the season.
Merry Clausmas.

Saturday, December 17, 2005 -- Off
Okay, the phone is not broken, after all.
Julie - "Your phone seems to be working now."
Me - "What? What did you do?"
Julie - "I turned it on. It was turned off."
Me - "What? It was turned off? Who turned it off?"
Apparently it turns itself off.
Who knew.

Wednesday, December 14, 2005 -- Color Me #EOFFFF
You can take the HTML COLOR QUIZ, to find out what HTML color best represents your personality.
This quiz is very simple, kind of fun, and there are 140 different possible results.
So, my dominant hues are green and blue, but I guess anyone who knows me already knew that.
you are lightcyan
#E0FFFF
Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is very low - you have better things to do than jump headfirst into every little project. You make sure your actions are going to really accomplish something before you start because you hate wasting energy making everyone else think you're working.

Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.
the spacefem.com html color quiz
Blends nicely with my site's color scheme, too, doesn't it?

Tuesday, December 13, 2005 -- Movies Narnia

We saw The Chronicles of Narnia last Sunday. It is a beautifully done fantasy and the little actress who plays Lucy is, not only adorable, but very good in the role. I loved Aslan, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, and the other talking animals. The special effects were very good.
At the risk of alienating "certain people" (cover your eyes, Cassie), I would say it has Potter beat, hands down.

Tonight we are seeing a preview showing of The Family Stone and next week a preview showing of Rumor Has It, both movies I wanted to see. It's so nice that David can get tickets to these things.

Friday, December 9, 2005 -- Trees
I'm a little late getting started this year, but trees are being trimmed.
Every year I debate whether I will bring all this stuff out. It's so much work. But it's only once a year and the house is so pretty with all the decorations.

Kerry - "Have you started putting up your trees, yet? You did eight last year, didn't you?"
Yuliana (nearly falling off her chair) - "EIGHT TREES?!!"
"Some of them are small." Lloyd and I said in unison, as though that makes us seem any less crazy.

Thursday, December 8, 2005 -- Numerical Order
I knew the room number and was told his office was at the end of the hall. A good thing to know since along the way I passed, in succession, rooms #601, 600, 625, 603, 610, 608, and 612.
What?? Who was in charge of numbering the offices in this building?
It appears they should have spent a little more time with Sesame Street.

Monday, December 5, 2005 -- Verizon
More Verizon bad news (I knew those stars were out of alignment) - My cell (only 4 months old) has totally died and will no longer take a charge. Patty said the same thing happened to hers.

Saturday, December 3, 2005 -- Live Your Dreams
Heard on a T.V. commercial for a children's game called Dream Life -
"It gives you the power to live your dreams --- batteries not incuded."

Friday, December 2, 2005 -- With a Fridge
"Discover how great it feels to devote yourself to something truly purposeless. By doing something with absolutely no point to it, we eliminate the possiblilty of failure, because in a sense the worse it may go then the more it can be considered a success."

- from Round Ireland With a Fridge by Tony Hawks

This is a hilarious book chronicling the adventures of a man who, on a bet, spent a month hitchhiking around Ireland while toting a small refrigerator. Part autobiography, part travel log, and part a character study of human nature (with a few insights of kitchen appliances thrown in as well), it's a fun book.

Thursday, December 1, 2005 -- Lost Phones
- Friday - Julie calls to say her cell phone was stolen. (A Verizon)
- Sunday - Our next door neighbor mentions that her cell phone was stolen. (A Verizon)
- Tuesday - Entering a driveway, we almost run over a lost cell phone on the ground. (A Verizon)
It appears the stars are out of alignment for Verizon this week. So if you have a Verizon, hold on tight to your cell. There are a lot of misplaced phones out there.

Saddly, only one of these incidents has a happy ending.
The lost phone started to ring, raising the question, how do you answer someone else's phone?
"Hello - yes I'm answering your phone - but I promise I didn't steal it."
As it happened we were quite close to her location, so owner and phone enjoyed a happy reunion.
