Saturday, June 18, 2005 -- Juggling Day
Today is International Juggling Day. I'm pretty sure they mean clubs, and balls, and rings, and things, but does juggling time schedules and responsibilities count? Maybe?

Monday, June 6, 2005 -- Blogiversary
I've been blogging for two years now.

Saturday, June 4, 2005 -- The Tree
I've been dreading this day all week. Right now there is a crew of tree trimmers out cutting down my tree. I can't look.
We have (had?) a beautiful tree in the front yard. It gave me shade and privacy, and provided homes to countless birds. But it was also enornously huge, and apparently wrecking havoc on the whole neighborhood, pulling up sidewalks, cracking drivways, choking the plumbing pipes, messing up the cable lines, and littering the entire street with leaves and berries.

It was a mistake. We should have kept the tree. The yard is ruined without it.

Wednesday, June 1, 2005 -- Surprise
I guess this falls under the heading of, "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself."

A recent conversation with a friend -
"I'm having a surprise birthday party for myself," she said.
"A surprise? But you already know about it."
"Of course I know about it, I'm planning it."
"Shouldn't your husband be doing that?"
"He doesn't know how to throw a party! This is an important birthday and I want it to be nice."
"Oh."
"I have some fun things planned, though."
"Like what?"
"I can't tell you any more about it now. . . It's a surprise."

Tuesday, May 31, 2005 -- Tree Faces
Tree Tree Tree
These just make me laugh.

Sunday, May 29, 2005 -- Wires and Things
The kids are home from college. That means my living room is now piled with their stuff and, upstairs, there is a wire cable stretching from the computer in the bonus room, across the ceiling, out the door, down the hall and into Raymond's room, where he has set up his computer.
"We just can't close the bonus room door anymore," he says, "but that's okay."
And, did I mention, the wire is a bright royal blue?

Saturday, May 28, 2005 -- Garage Sale
Once a year we, five or six families, haul all our unwanted stuff to one house and hold a garage sale. Nobody really makes much at these and we end up trading as much of our stuff among ourselves as we sell. But if we can leave with less than we came with, then it's pretty much a success. Mostly we just spend the day relaxing with friends, eating pizza, and visiting.

Friday, May 27, 2005 -- Rodents
"The rainy weather has left behind not only damage but some pesky rodents. Find out how you can keep these fat rats out of your home, tonight on the news at eleven." Got that covered. Cats.

Tuesday, May 24, 2005 -- Little Princesses
Kids
We spotted this group of little princesses when we were at Disneyland. I don't know any of these girls, but aren't they adorable? And they were more than willing to pose for me.

Saturday, May 21, 2005 -- Still Time
Message from Kimberly -
"May is 'Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat-Month.' There's still time."

Saturday, May 14, 2005 -- Free
Signs I saw while driving today;
"Free Dirt" - I don't think so.
"Free Bread" - Interesting.
"Free Kittens" - Tempting, but no.

Monday, May 9, 2005 -- Better Than Catnip
Still battling my sore arm, I've been massaging it with "Icy Hot" ointment. The wintergreen aroma of this ointment just drives the cats wild; better than catnip. They want to sniff and nuzzle and nip at my arm. They roll over, cuddling and purring, even becoming aggressive if I try to push them away.

Sunday, May 8, 2005 -- Mother's Day
Lloyd and I went out to breakfast and then to a movie in the morning. The theater gave free admission to all the mothers. (Whoo-hoo!) Later we took both of our Moms out for dinner. The restaurant gave each of the mothers a carnation. Lloyd commented that a free dessert would have been better, but the flower was nice.
Sadly, none of the kids were able to be home this weekend to join us. It is unfortunate that Mother's Day falls just before finals.

Saturday, May 7, 2005 -- Cinco Seis de Mayo
The best day to go to a Mexican restaurant is the 6th of May, (Seis de Mayo, if you will.) Since everyone else ate Mexican the night before on Cinco de Mayo, we were able to just walk right in and get a table, even on a Friday night when all the other restaurants in the area appeared to have long waiting times.
Cinco de Mayo is the day celebrating the anniversary of the 1862 Battle of Puebla. Though the Mexican troops were outnumbered as they battled the invading French army, they were able to win.
I think we may celebrate the day more here in the States than they do in Mexico, but the restaurants love it.

Friday, May 4, 2005 -- Powers of Observation
Years ago when a friend shaved off his beard, I didn't notice - even after working with him for most of the day. I had a sense that something was different, but somehow he still looked the same to me. So recently when a discussion came up about another friend shaving his mustache, it was mentioned that I probably wouldn't notice. And that's probably true. In fact, I don't know that I even realized he had a mustache until then. If someone had asked me the week before I would have said, "Um . . . Maybe, I don't know."
So if you are planning to commit a crime, I am the witness you want, because apparently I pay no attention at all to the physical characteristics of the people around me.
And, to all those who didn't notice my new haircut, I fully understand.

Thursday, May 3, 2005 -- Tiger
I thought Angel was an odd name for a black cat but now I've met a solid black cat by the name of Tiger. No stripes, solid black. Tiger.
